A Grand Gelato Opening For A La Mode!

I scream you, you scream. We all scream for… GELATO! A farmer’s market favorite, A La Mode Gelato has finally opened their brick-and-mortar shop at the Blue Star Arts Complex.

A La Mode has 16 different flavors, including Ricotta & Blackberry or Salted Caramel, and even vegan-friendly, dairy-free sorbettos such as Belgian Dark Chocolate and Pineapple & Basil.

Ice cream’s richer, denser cousin, gelato, is an Italian delight, that owner Josh Biffle has learned to create in Italy, with some of the country’s top gelato masters. Him and his wife, Diletta Gallorini, a native of Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy, have created a following at local farmer’s markets in their mobile gelateria, and will personally manage their new spot at 1420 S. Alamo St., suite 102.

Using locally sourced ingredients and using authentic techniques, A La Mode is sure to cure any sweet tooth, at any time of the year. Many of the classic ingredients will be imported.

“In this way, as in Italy, we’ve provide an experience, not just a treat,” Biffle said

A grand opening party will be held on Thursday, May 21st, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The full menu will be available, along with samples from Alamo Beer Co. and music by DJ Steven Lee Moya.

The Ricotta & Blackberry gelato is a far cry from the cheese put in your mother’s lasagna recipe. It’s filled flavor, and you’ll be hard pressed not to go back for seconds.

Besides serving up several sizes of gelato, they will serve espresso drinks, pastries from Bakery Lorraine, salumi boards, and panini.

With reclaimed, antique wood with splotches of paint, and modern tables, chairs, and even a couch, the owners have created an inviting space. There’s natural light pouring through large windows, and a feeling that you’re almost in Italy.

A La Mode is the perfect place to kick back with a coffee, grab dessert with a date after dinner, or even come in for lunch and enjoy imported Italian meats and cheeses.
